PYP 1 (Grade 1) for the school year 2026/2027
Language of instruction: English
Date of entry exams: May 29th, 2026
Maximum number of accepted students: 40 (two classes)
The results of the admission process will be published on the school website no later than 7 working days after the exam
Important information:
- The admission of children to GRADE 1 of the international program PYP will take place through an entry exams. In the middle of May, an invitation to the admission process will be sent via email together with the timetable and a unique code, under which the results will be published on the school website.
- Fill in the online application form
- Application form PYP 1 / Prihláška PYP 1 in Slovak Langauge (Accompanying guide for English speaking parents/guardians)
- It is necessary to fill in the application and by May 7th, 2026. It is not necessary to send the application via email or post.
- The application form must be signed by BOTH parents/legal guardians as written in the application. Alternatively, if both legal guardians cannot sign, power of attorney is required. This should be sent together with the application form.
- Written Declaration/Spojené vyhlásenie and Declaration of Honer/čestné vyhlásenie
Requirements: The admission process is open for any child who/whose:
- reaches the age of 6 by the end of August 2026 and does not attend first grade at any state, private or church elementary school, according to the Slovak National Schooling System;
- has been registered at a local school and therefore has an alternative school (in compliance with the Slovak education law);
- parents wish to enroll a child younger than this (age of 6 by the end of August 2026) and can present a certificate of maturity issued by a state Center for psychological assessment and counseling (CPPPaP – Centrum pedagogicko-psychologického poradenstva a prevencie),
- parents have requested postponement of compulsory education for the school year 2025/2026 and can provide proof of postponed compulsory education together with the application form.
The admission criteria follow the preschool curriculum:
- the selection process assesses the child’s listening comprehension, with emphasis on knowledge acquired in kindergarten; the child’s visual memory level; their general knowledge and analytic thinking skills; their mathematical/logical reasoning skills; their ability to understand instructions and express themselves in English.

PYP 2 – Grade 2 in Primary Years (Successful applicants would begin attending our school on February 2nd, 2026)
- The selection process will be based on a transfer examination – have to take place in person only.
- The transfer exams will take place on Tuesday, January 20th, at 08:00 at our school premises (Spojená škola, Pankúchova 6). Please ensure your child arrives at least 15 minutes earlier to allow sufficient time for registration and settling in.
- If you are interested, send an application to the email address pyp@gympaba.sk, no later than January 10th, 2026.
- Application PYP (2-5) / Prihláška PYP (2 – 5)
- The application has to be renewed every year.
- The application form must be signed by BOTH parents/legal guardians. Alternatively, if both legal guardians cannot sign, power of attorney is required. This should be sent together with the application form.
- The transfer examination will be from English Language and Mathematics.
English
- Reading and writing CVC words
- Writing simple sentences (capital letter, full stop, phonetic spelling)
- Reading comprehension
- Speaking and oral communication
Mathematics
- Place value to 1,000
- Addition and subtraction to 1,000 (with and without regrouping)
- Identifying and describing 2D and 3D shapes
- Skip counting in 2s, 5s, and 10s
- Identifying simple fractions (whole, half, third, quarter, etc.)
- Telling the time to the hour and half hour
- Comparing length, weight, capacity, and volume (greater/smaller)
PYP (other grades)
Admission to PYP classes from Grade 2 to Grade 5 is possible only if there is a free space in the class.
We will inform you about the possible opening of other grades soon on our website.
- The selection process will be based on a transfer examination.
